This week, we continued exploring the Northeast region of the United States with a trip to Maine.

Here's Abby's shelf set-up and a look at several of the books we used.  I like to include the state abbreviation using this letter construction kit, a fact card, foam cut-out shape from this puzzle and any other items we may use.  This week, we continued with several of the Little Passports activities from the introductory package.

She couldn't wait to read Keep the Lights Burning, Abbie since it had her name in the title. :-) Then, the girls painted a lighthouse with watercolors.

She reviewed facts with this activity sheet.

And, we finished our week reading One Morning in Maine, The Sea Chest, coloring and making blueberry muffins.

  1. Thank you for sharing your Geography lesson. I love the watercolor lighthouse. My daughter loves watercolors. I should print out some line drawings and let her use paints more.

    1. My daughter loves watercolors too and I always forget about them. I picked up an inexpensive art kit a few weeks ago and wanted to give her some activities to "sample" all the supplies--so this just happened to be perfect.

  2. Oooh, love the painted lighthouses! Did you print them on cardstock?

My daughter has pretty much outgrown our dot marker books, and it just occurred to me that I could have her use watercolor and brushes with them instead. Thanks for the inspiration!

    1. I actually trimmed down some marker/paint paper from the Dollar Tree to fit in the printer and just printed it off on that. Worked perfectly!

  3. Such pretty lighthouses! I"m going to have to look for some of that paper from our Dollar Tree and try that. My boys enjoy watercolors but are intimidated by the thought of drawing their own pictures.
