K4- RRSK: Letter R and Ladybug Theme

Friday, June 14, 2013

It's been awhile since I posted an update on Abby.  Between playing outside and Summer Zoo Camp, school has taken a backseat.  We have been learning about ladybugs and reading TONS of books.  With this theme, she's been more interested in learning through books than doing actual activities.  Ladybugs are very fascinating creatures and I've been learning right along side her, which I love!

We are essentially picking up where Raising Rock Stars Preschool left off with Raising Rock Stars Kindergarten. We are reviewing the Bible verses she learned before, but using more challenging activities.

Letter: R
Bible Verse: Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.  Exodus 20:8

This is one of Abby's favorite activities from RRSK, following directions.  This week, she had to read the directions on her own...which was a big deal to her. :-)

You can learn more about the K4 Curriculum here, which we are currently using as our base.

The work from K4 has taken a dramatic turn focusing a good portion of our week on math, namely addition.  Abby used aphid chips (ladybugs eat aphids) as a manipulative for adding practice.

We played The Ladybug Game many times.

Abby also made her own little ladybug to play with.  Her new little friend has been flying off chairs, blowing away in front of fans and even sleeps next to her at night. :-)

You can see my detailed post here.

One morning, Abby had a surprise...a baby bunny!  My husband and I had rescued this cute little bunny from a cat, late one evening.

Little Bunny

We set it free the following morning, close to where we've seen several other little bunnies.

And to end the week, Abby and her zoo friends from camp put on a show.  The theme was water play and they were so excited to show off for the parents!  They played Water Toss Bullseye, Water Balloon Toss, water inspired Musical Chairs and Duck, Duck Goose and several other games.  She was soaked, but had a great time!

Abby Grace had a busy week. I am so impressed with her beginning to read directions, bible verses & books to her little sister, Summer. We really enjoyed Family Day @ Zoo Camp! It was a lot of fun for all. Gran
