Celebrate Spring with a Butterfly Garden

Thursday, March 07, 2013

It's almost Spring and what better way to welcome the new season than with a Butterfly Pavilion!

Last year, we began what will become a wonderful Spring tradition..a Butterfly Garden. Abby has already been asking for caterpillars this year and can not wait to receive her package in the mail.  While it is an activity that requires slightly warmer temperatures, April usually is the perfect time for us.

So how does it work?

After purchasing the Butterfly Garden, you will find a redemption coupon inside.  Simply complete the instructions, add payment and soon after (about 2 weeks) your family will receive an exciting package in the mail.

The caterpillars (we had 4 total) will arrive in a container and are very easy to care for, just avoid having the container in a very warm location where they could become overheated.  The container houses all the food they will need for their amazing metamorphosis.  Your child will observe over the course of a few days to a few weeks (depending on their size) how caterpillars grow and eventually become chrysalides.  Once all caterpillars have reached the cocoon stage, simply move them to the mesh pavilion and in a little over a week, beautiful butterflies will emerge.

You can see my post here detailing our fun experience last year.
