Abby is 4.5 years old and Summer is 6.5 months old.

We are essentially picking up where Raising Rock Stars Preschool left off with Raising Rock Stars Kindergarten. We are reviewing the Bible verses she learned before, but using more challenging activities.
Bible Verse
For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believeth in Him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
John 3:16
Tracing her verse...

Cutting and gluing her verse in order...

Beginning sounds...

This activity, which has her listen and follow directions, has become her favorite.

You can learn more about the K4 Curriculum here, which we are currently using as our base.

Up to this point, the sight words in Abby's K4 work have been a review.  This week, she learned two new words (on, of)!

Practicing her number writing...

She dot painted and practiced lacing which she hasn't done in awhile and thoroughly enjoyed.

 Unit: 10
where, did, no, are

We changed things up this week with YCR.  We first started the program in December 2011 when Abby was 3.  At that point, she was showing signs she was ready to read, but I didn't want to frustrate or rush her. We took it slow and did 2 activities every other day which was usually a Tuesday or Thursday and spending 2 weeks or more if needed per unit.  We've continued that same routine up to this point, but she's come to a point where spending more than one week on a unit seems redundant and she gets somewhat frustrated--so I decided to see how she does doing YCR on a daily basis.

We continued Unit 10 from last week for a few reasons: she didn't seem confident enough with one of the words and she was learning 2 new words with K4--I didn't want to overwhelm her.  It worked great and we will see how next week goes as we begin Unit 11.

We have also added Road Trip USA into our year. My main goal with this program is to introduce Abby to the United States in a fun and exciting way and give her the opportunity to learn some basic history and facts.

We are doing this program our own way and going in the order Abby has learned the States/Capitals.  We started with California and she had a great time looking at pictures of the Golden Gate Bridge, the state bird, insect, flag, etc.  We looked at many Redwood trees and she was amazed there were trees big enough to drive through!  We listened to the sounds of the California Quail and California Golden Bear and looked at many different terrains California has to offer.  We even enjoyed a snack of California oranges and avocado.  It worked out great that Summer's food of the week was avocado (which besides brown rice has been her favorite) and Abby enjoyed the other half.

It's hard to believe both my girls are half way to their next birthdays or that Abby will be in Kindergarten this Fall!  Where has the time gone?

Daddy surprised the girls with some beautiful roses and my favorite, tulips.

Summer continues to include herself into our school time.  We gave her a few items from our Valentine's Day sensory bin.  We added some items to the little mailbox (from Target) so she could shake it and make music for us.

When she's not grabbing Abby's glue sticks and pulling Abby's papers away...she is rather good at entertaining herself.

And, she continues to get faster with her crawling.  However, she prefers to be on two feet.  Over the course of the week, she's learned she can pull up just about anywhere..her crib, the couches, the ottomans, chairs...etc..and has recently figured out she can move around those objects to get to her toys.  She cruises a few steps and then falls, but she is a determined little thing!
