A Change of Plans...

Friday, March 30, 2012

This had originally been designated as week one of Abby's Preschool, but when rummaging through the many totes all our stuff is temporarily housed...I got unmotivated, overwhelmed and decided to spend the week organizing rather than trying to plan around a mess.

In the midst of finding ideas for this organizational bliss, Abby and I happened upon a new bed for a future "big sister."  With less than 4 months to go, I wanted her to get used to "sharing" her space and also to get adjusted to a new "temporary" bed until we are eventually settled into our house.  So..we surprised my husband with not only a new bed, but a full room rearrangment when he got home.  While changing out certain pieces, the overwhelming school stuff issue really got crazy.  However, thanks to my little helper, we got it all straightened out and we are prepared to start first thing Monday morning and I am very excited, as is Abby.

Next week, I'll discuss what I have planned for her as far as school work goes, as well as, some of the activities I have pinned on Pinterest for our Easter theme.

Until then, big girl's need responsibility and what better than a chore chart.  Abby loves helping me with EVERYTHING..so this gives her a chance to do just that and earn some "coins" for her doggy bank.  I got this cute idea from Pinterest, thanks to this blog.  For an added bonus, I finally got to use my new laminator from Christmas!

Of course..she had to model her new chart.

And..I got her in action.

Too funny..

And sometimes, little girls have to make a mess and play before they can pick up their toys..so I'm told.

Spring Break

Monday, March 26, 2012

Abby is currently 3 1/2 years old.

Last week, we experienced some beautiful weather and Abby had a pretty busy week playing outside.

She played with the dogs for a while.

Spent a few minutes exploring some exciting looking "flowers" that blew in the wind...her Daddy should be thrilled with that. :-)

More exploring....

Played in the waterfall at the creek..

Ran around at Grandma's and plunked rocks versus skipping them..the bigger the better!!

We spent one afternoon playing in the sand, building "palaces."

Then, she wanted to take her animals on a walk.  She walks around an area until she finds the perfect muddy place and that's where she decides her animals can play.

Cheering on Mommy's team...

Watching the ducks with Grandad..

Enjoying the end to a wonderful week on a beautiful night after dinner...

Tot School- Letters W, X, Y and Z

Abby is 43 months old.

As I write this, we are on Spring Break and it is so beautiful outside, definately a walk in our future or a trip to the zoo.  Plus, it gives me a week to figure out where to go from here.  In a traditional sense, she would be officially starting preschool in August and I would have months and months to prepare.  However, with the new addition to our family coming in July..things I imagine are not going to be as smooth as it has been for the past few years.  In my quest to provide Abby the adequate time she needs and deserves, we will be starting her OFFICIAL preschool next week.

Here's a few reasons why:

1.  She loves school and is ready to move on to more challenging work.  She is a busy little girl and the Spring/Summer allows her so many learning and playing opportunities.

2.  Routine--this is our last few months as just Mommy and Abby to play and learn together, for me to get in the habit of taking attendance and being thorough with documentation.  Plus, this allows us to get several months of fun learning down so if we need to take breaks during the "normal" school year..we can without me feeling guilty when things are off balance.

3.  She is getting very open to telling me what she wants to learn about..in regards to themes and books.  I'm excited for her to give me ideas and we learn what Abby wants to learn about.

With all that said, here's what she's been up to for the last few weeks..I mainy just had the camera out at playtime.

Letter W- We studied the Arctic and the Walrus.  We also learned about Polar Bears and Seals.

Letter X, Y and Z- We just did a variety of things with reading, writing on the easel and she really enjoyed Leapfrog Letter Factory and reviewing letter sounds.

Playtime at the creek..

Playing on the seesaw..

Taking a "trip"..

We also took a little field trip to the children's museum with my cousin and her two little kids.  They had alot of fun!  I left my camera at home and had to use my phone, so they aren't the best quality pictures.

Abby played in a big tray of rice.

She had a blast in the Water Deck.  It was a water factory and she was drenched..

Making music...

Doing what Abby does best (running and jumping) in a padded environment..

Being an artist..

Looking so grown up!
